Advanced Linux Administration

Course Length: 5 days

Experience Level: Minimum 5 years in a Linux environment, 7 years recommended.

Description: Advanced Linux Administration bypasses almost all of the novice-level fundamentals and dives straight into giving admins the tools and techniques to take their environment to the next level. Where the topics overlap with earlier courses, the emphasis is on more advanced automation, debugging, and integration with other tools to solve more advanced problems. More advanced discussions also cover upcoming developments in the Linux environment that are of particular interest to admins working in larger environments, or where the sysadmin-to-server ratio is very high.

Lowering administrative overhead through more advanced automation, scripting, monitoring, and communications is a major focus. Concepts such as repeatability, scalability, and security are emphasized through the introduction of new tools and techniques in Linux Administration.

Topics Covered:

  • “One Touch” Installations with PXE and Kickstart
  • Monitoring with Nagios
  • Statistical Graphing Tools for System Administrators
  • Using ’sar’ for Interactive Monitoring and Historical Activity Reporting
  • Smart Monitoring with SNMP
  • Integration with Samba, CUPS, and LDAP
